The explanations of official Armenian circles with respect to Resolution 2216 passed by the European Parliament are striking in their level of illiteracy. Let us remind you that by that Resolution the EU Parliament demands that Armenian troops withdraw from the occupied Azerbaijani territories bordering Nagorno Karabakh. The resolution also recognizes Turkey’s role in the resolution process of the Karabakh conflict. Official Armenian parliamentary circles reassure the public that, Hey, you know, some parliamentarian of the pro-Azerbaijani group, hee, hee, participated in the formation process of that resolution. But we caught them, caught them… As if that wasn’t enough, those individuals stare straight into the camera, obviously hoping that once the Armenian public hears that explanation, it will give a deep sigh of relief. This would be like Turkey reacting to the adoption of resolution 252, passed by the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the US House of Representatives, by saying that it was formed by the pro-Armenian group of Congressmen and then be consoled by it. In all countries, resolutions recognizing the Armenian Genocide are circulated by foreign parliamentarians representing pro-Armenian groups, but representatives of the RA authorities not only do not despair of that fact, but they invite the authors of those initiatives to Armenia and decorate them with medals. This by no means reduces the importance of the documents put in circulation by pro-Armenian parliamentarians and adopted officially, because it reflects not just their personal position but also that of their country or organization. Just as the resolution adopted by representatives of the EU member states who are elected by their people reflects the European Union’s position and any other interpretation is absurd. Explanations offered by the RA Foreign Affairs Minister Edvard Nalbandyan are beyond imagination: Nalbandyan explicates the EU’s position about the NK conflict to the EU itself. On the occasion of his speech regarding Resolution 2216, Nalbandyan referred to the Madrid Principles, the Moscow and L’Aquila Declarations, insisting that the emphasis placed on Karabakh in the EU Parliament’s resolution contradicts those documents. The uninformed will think that the RA Foreign Affairs Minister is right. But let us remind you that the Armenian National Congress has warned the public as well as the authorities that the Moscow Declaration, the revised Madrid principles and the L’Aquila documents are rife with grave dangers for the Armenian side and will result is consequences that already exist in resolution 2216 of the EU Parliament. But a journalist, who perceives himself as wise, had written an enraged article on the assessment of the Armenian National Congress about the L’Aquila Declaration, explaining through blood and sweat, as Edvard Nalbandyan is doing now, that the declaration is by no means unfavorable for Armenia. He didn’t grasp what in fact was unfavorable there. He didn’t comprehend, because he is as illiterate as all those who head the diplomatic organization of Armenia in particular and the Republic of Armenia in general. Yet another journalist did not understand the Armenian National Congress when the latter was assuring that Turkey has irreversibly thrust itself into the resolution process of the Karabakh conflict. “Look,” he was saying, “the entire International community asserts that the Armenian-Turkish relations and the Karabakh conflict are separate issues.” People did not understand and it appeared that Resolution 2216 of the EU Parliament was passed specially for those who do not understand. The sad part is that among those who do not comprehend are not only journalists from different walks of life, but also the dimwits who represent Armenia in different forums. The impression that comes out of what they are saying is that a single pro-Azerbaijani parliamentarian caused Resolution 2216 to pass. This means that in the whole of the European Parliament consisting of 751 members, there is not even a single pro-Armenian parliamentarian who would counterbalance the activities of the pro-Azerbaijani parliamentarian. This is the real assessment of the activities of the Kocharyan-Serzh rule over the last twelve years.
