She is still in prison
By yesterday, “Haykakan Zhamanak” reporter, 22 year old Ani Gevorgyan continued to remain in prison. Ani was taken to the police station on May 31 while performing her professional duties in the area near Liberty square in Yerevan. NA member Zaruhi Postanjyan, who had met with Ani Gevorgyan the night before, said during an interview with our reporter yesterday that violence was used against Ani while being taken to the police station. At the press conference held in the editorial office of “Haykakan Zhamanak” yesterday, newspaper director Anna Hakobyan expressed her conviction that by arresting Ani Gevorgyan, RA police chief Alik Sargsyan is trying to take personal revenge on the journalist, because the latter did not care for some articles Ani Gevorgyan had written. Let us note that as of yesterday, no charges had been brought against Ani Gevorgyan. The 72nd hour following her arrest expires tomorrow at 6:30 pm. Until then, they should either bring charges against Ani and solve the issue of her pre-trial detention, or release her. Let us add that the journalist’s arrest is already the center of attention at some local and international organizations of journalistic and human rights.
